Benvenuto in Italia! Get to know one of Europe’s most beautiful languages. In Italian level 1, you work towards language level A1-.

About Italian 1
You practise the most important elements of Italian (such as greetings, articles and numerals) and in no time you will be familiar with building a good grammatical sentence in Italian. Of course, you will also work on pronunciation: we make sure you pronounce vowels, consonants and letter combinations correctly.
As the course progresses, you will be able to introduce yourself in Italian and hold a short conversation. In terms of writing skills, you will be introduced to vocabulary and the most important rules of grammar.
Italian level 1 is the ideal preparation for a short or longer stay in for instance Rome, Bologna or Milan. You will also benefit greatly from this course if you regularly go on business trips to Italy.
Are you enrolling in an Italian language course? Then you will receive a free membership of the Italian cultural association Dante Alighieri in Utrecht! So you can participate in cultural events and lectures throughout the year.
Learning goals
In Italian level 1 course, you work towards language level A1–.
After completing this course you will:
- be able to hold a short conversation in Italian and read simple Italian texts
- have practised speaking Italian in everyday situations
- know how to conjugate verbs
- be familiar with personal and possessive pronouns and the most important prepositions.
- be ready for the Italian level 2 course.
Method
- During the meetings, you practice the exercises from the book under the guidance of an experienced teacher.
- For many assignments, you work in pairs, giving feedback on each other’s work. This is not only instructive for the other person, but also for yourself.
Time investment
- Italian 1 consists of 9 sessions of 1,5 hours at Babel in Utrecht or in the virtual classroom.
- To ensure that you learn as much as possible from the classes, you should expect to spend approximately 2 to 3 hours per week on study and the completion of materials and assignments, which will be discussed during the classes.
Practical
- The teacher will speak Italian as much as possible. Participants can ask questions in Italian or in Dutch.
- You can order the necessary books for this course via our website’s Order Books page. You should make sure to have the book before the start of the first lesson.
- You will receive a certificate if you attend at least 8 of the 9 classes.
