Have you taken Chinese level 4 and would you like to develop yourself further? Or do you have knowledge of Chinese in another way and want to take your language skills to the next level? In this course you will work towards language level A2-. This course also prepares you for the globally recognized Chinese HSK level 2 exam.

About Chinese 5

In Chinese level 5, you will mainly develop your speaking and listening skills. You will learn how to use previously acquired knowledge, vocabulary and grammar in everyday conversations. You will also prepare for the Chinese HSK level 2 exam.

This course follows on Chinese level 4, but can also be taken separately if you have A1++ level. Not sure what your language level is? Then take our free placement test.

Learning goals

In this one, you work towards language level A2-.

After completing this course you will:

  • be able to express your opinion on an everyday topic.
  • be able to hold a simple Chinese conversation without too much effort.
  • know how to use sentence patterns and grammatical topics belonging to HSK 2 correctly.
  • be optimally prepared for a stay in China for your travel, studies or work.
  • be prepared for the HSK Examination level 2.

Method

As a teaching method, we use the book Standard course HSK 2. You will need both the textbook and the workbook.

The working methods of this course alternate between:

  • Classroom explanations.
  • Exercises in groups or pairs.
  • Role plays.

In all these teaching methods, the focus is on speaking and listening skills. The textbook is covered in class and the workbook is for self-study to promote language learning.

Time investment

  • Chinese 5 consists of 9 sessions of 1,5 hours at Babel in Utrecht or in the virtual classroom.
  • To ensure that you learn as much as possible from the classes, you should expect to spend approximately 2 to 3 hours per week on study and the completion of materials and assignments, which will be discussed during the classes.

Practical

  • The language of instruction is Dutch.
  • You can order the necessary books for this course via our website’s Order Books page. You should make sure to have the book before the start of the first lesson.
